The project area „Our“ contains the northernmost part of the Natura 2000 site „Ourvalley“ and extends from the border triangle near Ouren to Stolzemburg in the South.
The Ourvalley is among the most impressive nature reserves in Luxembourg. It gains its attractiveness from a diversity of valuable biotopes. Its habitats harbour a vast variety of animal and plant species, such as the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758)) and the thick shelled river mussel (Unio crassus), that occur on the national Red List and on the appendage II of the European habitats directive.
The project area „Sauer“ is part of the Natura 2000 site Obersauer in Northwest Luxembourg from Martelange to Pont Misère.
The varied relief, formed by the river and its side streams, lead to a high diversity of habitats that have been colonised by a wide variation of rare plant and animal species. Thus, the Obersauer counts among the most valuable nature reserves inLuxembourg.
